Kyrou on the habs rumours: 'I’m glad nothing’s happened'
Steve Roberts-Imagn Images

Although he’s never played for the Canadiens, Jordan Kyrou’s name was very popular in Montreal this summer, and there were a thousand and one rumours about him in the last few months, as the Blues seemed keen to trade him. In the end, nothing happened. And Kyrou says he’s glad nothing happened, at least according to Matthew DeFranks, who covers the team for the St. Louis Post-Dispatch.

At the beginning of July, colleague Maxime Truman revealed in a text that Kyrou had agreed to lift his no-trade clause to come and play in Montreal. Has he changed his mind since then? Or is he saying this because he wants to please the fans in St. Louis? Whatever it is, the main fact remains the same: inserting a player like Kyrou into the Canadiens line-up would have helped. The forward would have added some offensive punch to the team’s top-6, and would have added even more depth to Martin St-Louis’s roster. But the Blues probably had some really huge demands for the forward, and maybe that’s what stalled in the end too. We know that Kent Hughes loves his core and doesn’t want to gut the club to add a talented player… And the Blues, on the other hand, had every right to be greedy in their demands.Jordan Kyrou, after all, is a guy who has scored 35 goals and averaged 70 points over the past three years…

’Overtime’

– Intriguing.

Fair enough.

– Schaefer wasn’t even born when Crosby was drafted in 2005!

– Too bad.
