With training camp just around the corner, we are previewing each player on the LA Kings roster. Up next: Glenn Gawdin!
Birthdate: March 25, 1997
Birthplace: Richmond, British Columbia
Height: 6’1
Weight: 192 lbs
Position: Center
Shoots: Right
Draft: 4th round, 116th overall, 2015 NHL Entry Draft
After two seasons in the Anaheim Ducks organization with their AHL affiliate in San Diego, Glenn Gawdin joined the other side of the SoCal rivalry. Gawdin was signed to a two-year NHL deal by the LA Kings as a depth signing to play for the Reign. With the Kings organization losing former MVP TJ Tynan in the offseason, Gawdin was brought in to fill the 1C position on the Reign that Tynan vacated.

Gawdin came as advertised. He set career-highs in games played (72), goals (26), assists (36), points (62), and a plus-minus rating of +23. He was solid in the faceoff circle from the eye test, and his playmaking ability and scoring were on full display. His 17 5v5 goals and 26 primary assists were team highs and also automatic in shootouts, going 5-for-5 in that department.

In addition to his strong season, Gawdin also reached two AHL milestones by scoring his 100th goal and reaching 400 career AHL games. He also earned Player of the Month for November, recording 21 points (9 G, 12 A) in 12 games. It’s safe to say he filled in that 1C role nicely for Ontario.

Gawdin is entering the final year of his two-year contract and is certainly destined for Ontario. He’ll have to clear waivers to be assigned to the Reign, and if he goes unclaimed, I expect him to be the 1C again for Ontario. With Gawdin being one of the veterans on the team and with the Kings assigning at least 10 players to the Reign, who are either turning pro or entering their second AHL season, he’ll serve as a mentor and possibly a candidate to wear an A on the sweater.
