LA Kings Training Camp Preview: Joe Hicketts

2023-24 season

Joe Hicketts was one of a handful of players signed to NHL contracts as organizational depth, by the LA Kings, who all played in Ontario with the Reign. Hicketts recorded three assists in the season’s first five games and quarterbacked the second power-play unit. Unfortunately, Hicketts got hurt on October 25th in a game against the Coachella Valley Firebirds that would sideline him for four months.

Hicketts would return to the Reign lineup on February 16th, immediately provided offense on the back end, and went on a seven-game point streak; recording 12 points in that span (1G – 11A). Upon his return to the lineup, Hicketts played top-four minutes and quarterbacked the first power-play unit due to Brandt Clarke being called up to Los Angeles. he would ultimately go back to the second unit when Clarke returned.

For the season, Hicketts finished with 20 points (1G-19A) in 30 games and six points (1G-5A) in eight playoff games, which tied for the team lead by a defenseman with Clarke. He played on the first defensive pair with Clarke during Ontario’s playoff run.
