Longtime New York-based NHL analyst Larry Brooks has suggested a blockbuster deal that sees the New Jersey Devils land Quinn Hughes from the Vancouver Canucks to play with brothers Jack and Luke.
The Vancouver Canucks are in a period of transition after now-ex head coach Rick Tocchet informed them that he would not be returning for a 3rd full year behind their bench.
He had won the Jack Adams Trophy as the NHL's best head coach for leading them to the Pacific Division title last season, but after a year filled with internal strife within the organization, he's departing for a different challenge.
And while multiple rumors continue to swirl about the future of forward Elias Pettersson with the club, Canucks fans are starting to grow concerned about star defenseman and captain Quinn Hughes' future in Vancouver.
Longtime New York-based hockey analyst Larry Brooks of The New York Post has suggested that Quinn could soon be on the move to the New Jersey Devils to play alongside brothers Jack and Luke Hughes.
The eldest Hughes sibling has made it clear he wants to unite with Jack and Luke. Here's a secret: It's not going to be in Vancouver. Quinn may have two years remaining on his contract before he can become a free agent in 2027, but there is no reason to delay the inevitable.
Brooks then said that the Canucks would be able to get a considerable haul in return for Quinn unlike when the Devils lost star Scott Niedermayer in 2005.
According to Brooks, the ideal scenario for the Canucks is to make a move quickly and put this whole situation behind them.
The sooner the better for the Canucks, whose season was destroyed from loud noise within and have lost the coach in Rick Tocchet the organization wanted to retain. At least the Vancouver hierarchy will have the opportunity to get something in return - it should be a bounty - for the brilliant 25-year-old defenseman the way that the Devils did not when the then-30-year-old Scott Niedermayer bolted in the summer of 2005 after the final year of his contract expired during the canceled 2004-05 season.
Brooks even decided to put together a potential mock trade that would see Hughes unite with his brothers in New Jersey while the Canucks would stockpile young stars.
