The best team in the AHL’s Northern Section was in action last night at Place Bell, as the Laval Rocket took on the Utica Comets, the worst team in the division.
It wasn’t an easy game for the Rocket, but in the end, Pascal Vincent’s team came out on top, 5-4 in overtime.
The victory required a fine comeback, as well as some outstanding individual performances.
Québécois forward Alex Belzile scored four points, including two goals and two assists, for a total of 31 points, including 18 goals, in 29 games.
Belzile is a key addition for the Rocket this season, having played a big part in the team’s success.
Now let’s move on to another player who stood out last night, this one more intriguing for the future of the Montreal Canadiens, and I’m talking about Sean Farrell.
The Rocket’s diminutive forward was once again dominant in a Laval victory, scoring three points, including the game’s first goal.

He also served up a superb pass to Jared Davidson for the winning goal in overtime.

In short, Farrell had a fine performance, and that’s anything but insignificant for the Rocket’s #15, as he’s been stringing this kind of performance together since the start of the season.
To date, Farrell has 27 points, including seven goals, in 32 games, putting him third on the Rocket scoring list, behind only Laurent Dauphin (38 in 29) and Alex Belzile (31 in 29).
At 24 years of age, the American forward has the best production of any player still considered a prospect.
And in all seriousness, this should really earn him a recall with the Canadiens in the very near future.
Farrell is doing everything right for Pascal Vincent in Laval, so he clearly deserves a chance to make his mark in the NHL, as so many have this season.
Owen Beck, Florian Xhekaj, and Jared Davidson had their turn, so Farrell deserves his as soon as a recall is due.
With Josh Anderson’s injury, the details of which are not yet known, a door could open for the Rocket’s diminutive forward.
Beck is still the 13th forward in Montreal, but all the same, Farrell could benefit from his turn sooner rather than later.
At 24, it’s now or never to see if Farrell still has NHL potential, while his AHL production clearly doesn’t go unnoticed.

– Big contract coming up for Alex Tuch.
Jeff Marek: Re Alex Tuch negotiations: I think I’ve been pretty consistent on this one, if they want to re-sign him it’s the Adrian Kempe deal [$10.6×8], something in that neighborhood – The Sheet (1/2)
