Toronto Maple Leafs head coach Craig Berube provided an update on his starting goaltender Saturday, noting that Anthony Stolarz is progressing from injury but has not yet resumed skating, per TSN’s Chris Johnston.
Stolarz sustained an injury in Game 1 of the Maple Leafs’ second-round series versus the Atlantic Division rival Florida Panthers after being bumped in the crease by opposing forward Sam Bennett. Stolarz exited the game as a result of the injury, with reports indicating he left Toronto’s home rink on a stretcher en route to a local hospital for further observation.
Through seven appearances in the 2025 Stanley Cup Playoffs, Stolarz has come away with four victories coupled with a .901 save percentage and 2.19 goals-against average. Appearing in his first season with the Maple Leafs after agreeing to a two-year, $5-million deal in unrestricted free agency last offseason, the 31-year-old Edison, N.J., native pieced together a 21-8-3 showing alongside a .926 save percentage, 2.14 goals-against average, and four shutouts.
Originally chosen 45th overall by the Philadelphia Flyers in the 2012 NHL Draft, Stolarz has since seen 149 career contests counting stops with the Flyers, Edmonton Oilers, Anaheim Ducks, Panthers, and Maple Leafs in which he has posted a 68-40-13 record with a .917 save percentage, 2.52 goals-against average, and 12 shutouts. Last spring, Stolarz won the Stanley Cup with the Panthers, serving as backup to veteran starter Sergei Bobrovsky.
In Stolarz’s absence, the Maple Leafs have turned to 26-year-old Missouri-born goaltender Joseph Woll. Entering Game 1 versus the Panthers in place of Stolarz, Woll closed out the series opener with 17 saves on 20 shots to help guide the Maple Leafs to a 5-4 victory. In his most recent outing, Woll turned aside 31 of 36 shots in a 5-4 overtime loss that saw the Panthers close the Maple Leafs’ series lead to 2-1.
