The Toronto Maple Leafs announced Tuesday the club had signed defenseman Vincent Borgesi to a two-year contract that will begin in 2026-27.

The 22-year-old Borgesi had five goals and 15 assists for 20 points and 29 penalty minutes in 36 games with Northeastern University in the NCAA this season. He served as team captain and was named a nominee for the 2026 Hobey Baker Award.

Borgesi recorded 16 goals and 64 assists for 70 points and 79 penalty minutes in 135 career NCAA games.

According to Daily Faceoff prospect analyst Steven Ellis, Borgesi is “a small but skilled defenseman, one that many NHL teams seemed interested in.”

(He had a) productive four years at Northeastern. Good skater, smart playmaker. Toronto’s signing here is most likely about (AHL affiliate Toronto Marlies depth, but I like it,” he said.

Before enrolling at Northeastern, the Philadelphia native spent two seasons in the USHL with the Tri-City Storm, where he recorded seven goals and 43 assists for 50 points in 106 career regular-season games. He also posted four assists in eight playoff games.

Borgesi, who stands at 5-foot-9 and weighs 185 pounds, also served as captain for the U.S. Collegiate Selects Team at the 2025 Spengler Cup. He recorded one assist in four games.

Going into Tuesday night, the Leafs were 29-27-12 with 70 points, which ranked seventh in the Atlantic Division and 11 points back of a Wildcard spot in the Eastern Conference.
