A couple of players are on their way to becoming free agents.
On Tuesday, the Toronto Maple Leafs placed forward Ty Voit on unconditional waivers for the purpose of contract termination. The same story goes for Calgary Flames defenseman Joni Jurmo, who also hit the wire on Tuesday.

At one point, Voit was a rather intriguing prospect. He was taken by the Maple Leafs in the fifth round, 153rd overall, of the 2021 NHL Draft. He went on to become an exceptional scorer in the Ontario Hockey League with the Sarnia Sting, with many hoping he could develop into a solid scorer within the organization.
However, injuries stunted his growth over his first two years in the professional ranks. Voit appeared in one game with the Leafs’ American Hockey League affiliate, the Toronto Marlies, that coming in December of the 2023-24 season. He played a handful of games that year with the Newfoundland Growlers of the ECHL, before spending the entire 2024-25 campaign with the Cincinnati Cyclones. There, the Wexford, Pennsylvania native scored eight goals and 29 assists for 73 points.
Per The Hockey News’ David Alter, Voit and the Leafs mutually agreed to part ways.
In 68 ECHL appearances, Voit has scored 10 goals and 35 assists for 45 points.
Jurmo was a third-round pick by the Vancouver Canucks in the 2020 NHL Draft. However, he was traded to the Flames in January 2024, along with Andrei Kuzmenko, in the deal that sent Elias Lindholm to the Canucks. Jurmo signed a two-year, entry-level contract with the Flames last March.
Unfortunately, the Espoo, Finland native struggled to find his footing in his first year in North America. He started the season in the ECHL with the Rapid City Rush, the Flames’ secondary affiliate, but did receive a couple of call-ups to the AHL, playing a total of 17 games for the Calgary Wranglers. Jurmo didn’t score any points with the Wranglers, but notched two goals and eight points for 10 points in 12 games with the Rush.
