Connor McDavid contract talks remain ongoing in Edmonton, and now his superstar teammate Leon Draisaitl has addressed the entire situation.
Last season, Leon Draisaitl inked his extension with the Edmonton Oilers early in September, and in 2025, fans are eagerly awaiting any news on captain Connor McDavid and his future as he still remains unsigned despite being eligible for an extension over the past few months.
Thus far, we've not heard anything concrete, but around the league, the belief is that the league's best player will ink a short-term extension with the team, likely before the regular season begins.
When asked about the situation in an interview with TSN, Draisaitl unsurprisingly expressed that he wants Connor back in Edmonton for a long time to come, but understands that he will need to take his time to make the best possible decision.
Of course I want him here as long as possible. I want to do it with him. But same comment I had. It's about him and his family, and they're going to make their decision based on what's best for them.
To this point, McDavid has expressed his desire to win with the Edmonton Oilers, but given that they've struggled to do so, if he remains unsigned heading into the season and the team start off slow, Oilers fans may begin to panic over his future.
For now however, the overwhelming expectation is that a short (2-4 year) extension will get done, with the belief being that it will come in around $16 million per year, and with his star teammate wanting him back, McDavid has plenty to weigh up ahead of potential free agency next year.
