Longtime NHL veteran announces retirement from the league

Veteran forward Brad Malone is retiring from the National Hockey League after nine seasons.

Malone, 35, officially announced his retirement after a 9-year playing career, playing for the Colorado Avalanche, Carolina Hurricanes & Edmonton Oilers.

Brad Malone posted a statement on social media thanking the Oilers for his time with the organization, having spent the last seven seasons with the club, both in the NHL and in the AHL as captain of the Oilers affiliate, the Bakersfield Condors

Reflecting on the past 20 years, I am filled
with gratitude for the incredible experiences I have had. While my mind and heart remain committed, my physical limitations prevent me from continuing as I wish. I am deeply appreciative of the support and guidance I have received from my family as well as so many individuals throughout this journey. My hope is that I have positively impacted as many lives as those who have helped me along the way. Each step of this journey has been marked by cherished memories. I extend my heartfelt thanks to the Bakersfield Condors and the Edmonton Oilers for providing my family and me with a place to call home and an organization to take pride in over these past seven years. - Brad Malone

Malone is apart of a deep hockey family with NHL ties. His father Jim was a first round pick of the New York Rangers in 1980. His uncle Greg is a longtime NHL veteran who won two Stanley Cups as a scout with the Pittsburgh Penguins. His cousin Ryan Malone, who was an assistant captain with Pittsburgh and played 11 seasons.

Brad Malone played nine seasons with the Avalanche, Hurricanes & Oilers, having 14 goals and 32 points in 218 career NHL games.

Malone was hired by the Oshawa Generals as a player development coach after his retirement.
