Longtime Western Conference goalie Anton Khudobin has decided to call it quits and retire after nearly playing 20 years in professional hockey.

Anton Khudobin, perhaps best remembered for backing the Dallas Stars to the 2020 Stanley Cup Final, has announced his professional hockey retirement.

Drafted 206th overall in 2004 by the Minnesota Wild, Anton Khudobin began his NHL career with the Minnesota Wild before a trade sent him to Boston in 2011.

He spent a short time with the Bruins before moving to the Carolina Hurricanes and then being traded to the Anaheim Ducks. In 2016, he rejoined Boston as Tuukka Rask's backup.

Khudobin was signed by Dallas in 2018, and his career hit its high point in the NHL's 2020 playoff bubble, where he recorded a 14-10-1 mark and led the Stars to the Final.

Khudobin Earned a Three-Year Contract Extension After His 2020 Run

That stint earned him a three-year extension, but he was waived and sent to the AHL by December 2021. He was eventually traded to the Chicago Blackhawks as part of a deal with Max Domi and Dylan Wells.

Over 260 NHL games, Khudobin went 114-92-33 with a 2.52 goals-against average, .916 save percentage, and 11 shutouts, which are very good numbers.

He last played for Russia during the past two seasons before suddenly returning to Dallas for the Stars' 2024 playoff run, when he was warmly welcomed.

Khudobin is the second NHL goalie to retire this summer after Marc-Andre Fleury recently announced he was leaving the game.

We wish him the very best in this next chapter of his life.
