Following another first-round playoff exit, the Los Angeles Kings made the decision to bring in former Edmonton Oilers executive Ken Holland to run the show. Holland was responsible for building much of the current Oilers team, and Los Angeles is hopeful that he can turn them back into Stanley Cup title contenders.
Holland is known for his aggressive mindset with building rosters, and he could look to make a move to bring in more talent to the team. But how he does this remains a mystery, especially given the lack of additions this summer.
But the Kings could always look to bring in a star player, giving them a legitimate go-to piece to build around.
NHL writer Adam Gretz of Bleacher Report named the Kings as a potential landing spot for Minnesota Wild star Kirill Kaprizov amid all the trade rumors.
"The Kings are well structured, strong defensively (though that might change after this offseason) and have a team that is full of really good two-way players. What they are lacking is a big-time superstar offensively. They need more difference-makers in that lineup.
"A player like Kaprizov, if they could land him and keep him, would absolutely fill that need and even if it cost them a significant package of players back in return," Gretz wrote.
Adding someone like Kaprizov could dramatically change everything for this Los Angeles franchise. Kaprizov is one of the best players in the entire league, and he could be the face of the organization for years to come.
Last season with the Wild, Kaprizov put up 25 goals and 31 assists over 41 games played in the regular season. Kaprizov dealt with some injuries, which limited his time on the ice for Minnesota.
If Kaprizov is indeed available, the Kings should jump all over the chance to land his services. Kaprizov is a game-changer, and he could be the defining player in the Holland era if the Kings were to trade for him.
