Los Angeles Kings Linked to Rasmus Andersson Trade

The Calgary Flames are still dealing with the contract situation around star defenseman Rasmus Andersson, with the new season starting up next month. There have been a lot of trade rumors involving Andersson this summer, with multiple teams being linked with him.

Andersson wants a new deal, and there has been some speculation that he wants out of Calgary. The veteran pushed back on this a little earlier in the offseason, but the two sides still haven't come to an agreement on a contract.

Flames Rival Could Trade For Rasmus Andersson

NHL writer Adam Gretz of Bleacher Report named a few teams that could be landing spots for Andersson if the Flames were to move him. The Los Angeles Kings were mentioned, and the veteran could give this unit a real boost.

"The Kings' defense has been its biggest strength in recent years. That group has undergone quite a transformation this offseason with Vladislav Gavrikov and Jordan Spence leaving, and Brian Dumoulin and Cody Ceci coming in.

"The problem is the Kings still have needs offensively, and they now have major money invested into sub-par players on defense," Gretz wrote.

The biggest issue for a trade between the Kings and Flames is the financials. Los Angeles may not have room to add Andersson unless the Kings were to move some rotation pieces in a deal.

Calgary may also prefer not to send Andersson to a division rival, which could also complicate things. But the Kings do make sense as a landing spot, considering the need to add to the blueline.

Los Angeles wants to get over the hump in the Western Conference, and bringing in a talent like Andersson could help things. The veteran could provide a real spark on defense, but his playmaking could help the team as well.

Last season with the Flames, Andersson put up 11 goals and 20 assists. The veteran defenseman has been one of the hottest names on the trade market this summer, but the entire situation remains fluid at this time.
