It’s that time of the year for The Win Column’s NHL Draft Rankings and Draft Profiles! Earlier this week, we released the TWC consolidated 2025 NHL Draft rankings. The 2025 NHL Draft will take place on June 27th and 28th in Los Angeles. Today, we’re looking at Luca Romano.

Who is Luca Romano?

Player Position Handedness Height Weight
Luca Romano C Right 5’11” 168lbs

Romano’s on ice production

Year Draft Relative League Team GP G A P
2022–23 D-2 OJHL Stouffville Spirit 1 0 0 0
2023–24 D-1 OHL Kitchener Rangers 56 10 12 22
2024–25 D+0 OHL Kitchener Rangers 67 25 26 51

Romano saw a big jump in his production this season, more than doubling his goal and assist output. He was sixth on the team in points and fourth in goals.

Romano’s strengths

Skating

Romano is probably known best for his skating. He has a very impressive top speed, which allows him to blow past defenders. This skating ability allows him to be a constant threat in transition play. This skill makes him a dangerous offensive threat on the ice, and it is just one of the reasons he was able to put up 51 points this past season.

Offensive awareness

Romano is very skilled in taking advantage of his opponents’ miscommunication. He can read the play well, which allows him to take possession away from his opponents and generate chances for his team to capitalize.

Romano’s areas of improvement

Size

As is the case with most prospects entering the NHL draft, Romano still needs to add some strength before he can truly compete in front of the net and play along the boards. Despite this, Romano has plenty of time to add to his frame, and it is something that should come with time.

Fit with the Flames

Well, first off, Romano is a centre. This already makes him a good fit for the Flames. Additionally, the Flames are missing centres in their system who have an offensive skill set. Romano could be a valuable offensive piece for the Flames a couple of years down the line.

Summary

Romano is a speedy offensive threat who should be viewed as a player who could provide some good depth scoring in the middle of the lineup once he is settled into the NHL. Romano will need to add to his size to be an effective difference-maker in the NHL, but he has a good base to build off of. He is likely to be selected in the early-mid second round of the NHL Draft.
