The Utah Mammoth has signed defenseman Artem Duda to a two-year contract extension, the hockey club announced Friday afternoon.
The new deal will begin in the 2027-28 season and run through the end of 2028-29, with the first year as a two-way deal that will see him earn $900,000 in the NHL and $175,000 in the minors, with at least $220,000 guaranteed. In the second year of the contract, the deal becomes a one-way agreement, and he will be paid $950,000.
Now 22 years old, Duda has played in parts of three American Hockey League seasons with the Tucson Roadrunners, scoring nine goals and 36 assists for 45 points over 103 regular-season games since entering the professional ranks.
Initially selected in the second round of the 2022 NHL Draft by the Arizona Coyotes, Duda began his career in the CSKA Moskva development system and rose to play 14 KHL games in 2022-23, scoring three assists.
After his brief KHL stint, the Coyotes looked to bring Duda to North America, but they couldn’t bring a Russian player into the CHL and couldn’t bring a teenager into the AHL. With limited options, the Coyotes worked out a deal with U Sports’ Toronto Metropolitan University, making Duda a rare NHL-drafted prospect to play in Canadian university hockey competitions.
With the TMU Bold, he scored two goals and five assists in 12 games, helping the team advance to the national semifinal on home ice, before moving on to the AHL.
Currently playing with Tucson, Duda has three points in six AHL games this season, with the Roadrunners sitting at 3-2-1, good for fifth in the AHL’s Pacific Division. He will look to make his NHL debut at some point in 2026-27, or in the next two years, as part of his newly signed deal.
