The Toronto Maple Leafs have had a very interesting offseason, to say the least. First off, the team lost star forward Mitch Marner in free agency, and the front office has spent the summer trying to replace his production in the lineup.
This has been tougher than expected, and the Maple Leafs are a worse team than they were a year ago. But it seems that Toronto may not be done making moves just yet, and the front office could have some tricks up its sleeve before the season starts.
Toronto has been reported to want to bring another top-six forward into the mix, and it could have them making a late offseason move. But in order to do so, the Maple Leafs may need to move some of their younger players.
According to NHL insider David Pagnotta, the Maple Leafs are again talking to teams about deals involving players such as Nick Robertson and David Kampf, among others. Pagnotta said that the names are slowly coming back up again after rumors all summer.
David Pagnotta: Re Leafs: I believe they've started reaching out to some teams about their bottom six; so guys like Jarnkrok, Kampf, Robertson; their names are starting to pop up slowly again - Hello Hockey (9/27)

Toronto doesn't have many tradeable assets to work with, and this could see them forced to trade some younger players. While this isn't ideal, it could be the only way to upgrade the roster.
For Robertson he put up 15 goals and seven assists over 69 games for the Maple Leafs last season. In contrast, Kampf appeared in 58 games last season for the Maple Leafs, scoring five goals and putting up eight assists.
The Maple Leafs front office has to do something; otherwise, things could get even worse among the fanbase. This team needs to find success this year, or big changes could be coming.
