NEW YORK — The Toronto Maple Leafs will visit the New York Rangers to complete a mini two-game road trip in the city on Tuesday. 

Toronto is coming off an emotional 4-3 overtime loss to the New York Islanders on Monday at UBS Arena. With 6.4 seconds remaining the Maple Leafs forced overtime when Morgan Rielly scored his fourth goal of the season. William Nylander's shot from the point hit John Tavares, who collected the primary assist to pick up his 1,000th NHL point.

The ninth game in Toronto's last ten was decided by just one goal and the Leafs played in their NHL-leading 12th overtime on Monday.

The club will not take the ice and a starting goaltender may be revealed later in the morning went he club holds their pre-game availability. With the Maple Leafs playing on back-to-back nights, Martin Jones may get his first start for the Leafs.

Jones made his season debut on Thursday when he stepped onto the ice in relief of Joseph Woll, who was injured in Toronto's 4-3 victory against the Ottawa Senators. 

The Rangers are one of the most consistent teams this season. With a 19-6-1 record, they hold a commanding lead over the top spot in the Metropolitan Division. The Rangers have only lost in consecutive games once this season and have a six-point lead in the division.

Artemi Panarin has been hot for New York this season. He leads the club with 38 points (16 goals and 22 assists) in 26 games.

One of the things that has made the Rangers so successful is their ability to finish off opponents in close games. They are 7-0-0 when tied after two periods.

The Maple Leafs will have their dads in attendance for this game. The dads joined the club on Saturday and took in their 4-0 win against the Nashville Predators at Scotiabank Arena before hopping on a plane to New York.
