The Toronto Maple Leafs are looking to advance to the Eastern Conference Final, hosting a massive Game 7 against the Florida Panthers. The hope for the team is that they will be able to move to the next round, but if they can't, a crucial offseason will begin.
Toronto has multiple key players entering free agency, and it could see the team look a little different next season. One of those players is star Mitch Marner, and many around the NHL don't expect him to return.
Despite Marner spending his entire career with the Maple Leafs, money tends to talk in free agent situations. There will be no shortage of suitors for Marner, and he could make his way out of Toronto.
One option for Marner could be the Vegas Golden Knights. Vegas was knocked out of the second round of the playoffs and could be looking to make a big splash.
NHL writer Jesse Granger of The Athletic linked Marner to the Golden Knights.
"They could use that space to bring most — if not all — of them back, but after this disappointing second-round exit, it seems more likely they’ll look to upgrade on the wing in free agency. Toronto’s Mitch Marner will be the top prize, and should command one of the richest contracts in the league."
Adding Marner could be massive for the Golden Knights, and he could help them get closer to winning another title. Marner scored 27 goals and 75 assists for the Maple Leafs this season, showing off his strong production.
The Maple Leafs may try to keep Marner in town, but there will surely be other suitors involved.
