Maple Leafs Prospect at Summer Showcase

Toronto Maple Leafs prospect Tyler Hopkins is being invited to Hockey Canada’s National Junior Team Summer Showcase. He is one of 18 forwards listed on the invitee roster.

The summer showcase is an event that previews the competition ahead of this winter’s World Junior selection camp. The 19-year-old was selected 86th overall by the Maple Leafs in the 2025 NHL Draft. Hopkins registered 25 goals and 25 assists for 50 points in 56 games last season. His season was split between the Kingston Frontenacs and Guelph Storm. He is considered a rising prospect within the Maple Leafs organization and was signed to an amateur tryout by the Toronto Marlies (AHL) in April.

It will be interesting to see if Hopkins can earn a role ahead of this year’s World Juniors tournament. The 6’1, 183-pound left-winger profiles as a strong two-way player. He protects the puck well, has the physical abilities to win puck battles, and is great at finding open teammates.

Hopkins was a consistent goal scorer at the youth level before graduating to the OHL. Last summer, he told reporters that he tries to model his game after Tampa Bay Lightning centre Anthony Cirelli. Hopkins recently attended the Maple Leafs’ development camp. At camp, he was one of the best players during the week and one of the more noticeable forwards during the scrimmage.

Maple Leafs Prospect is Worth Watching

Hopkins has gained a wealth of international experience. He has played for Canada White at the 2023 Under-17 World Hockey Challenge, where he helped them win the gold medal. Hopkins also won gold with Canada at the Hlinka Gretzky Cup and the 2025 IIHF Under-18 Men’s World Championship. These accomplishments are a big reason why he is being invited to Hockey Canada’s National Junior Team Summer Showcase. His experience bodes well for his chances of securing a roster spot on this winter’s World Juniors team.

It’s an exciting time for the Maple Leafs and their revamped prospect pool. Gavin McKenna, selected first overall in the 2026 NHL Draft, leads the way. The Maple Leafs drew a lot of praise for the outcome of their 2026 draft haul. Toronto was one of the very few teams that earned an A Grade or better. Hopkins is a rising star within the Maple Leafs prospect pool and a player worth keeping an eye on, especially if he continues to elevate his game on the international stage.

Canada will play their first game of the Summer Showcase on Wednesday against Team Sweden. They will then play Team Finland on Thursday, followed by a game against Team USA on Saturday.
