As the trade deadline approaches, the Toronto Maple Leafs continue to weigh their options, and judging by the latest reports, general manager Brad Treliving isn't convinced about parting ways with key future assets.
Treliving shut down any chance of moving either of the Leafs' top prospects (Fraser Minten and Easton Cowan) in any deadline trade when speaking to the media on Saturday.
“They’re going to be NHL players,” Treliving said of Cowan and Minten. “We think highly of them as we do with a number of other prospects. We think those guys are exactly where they need to be right now and are progressing well, and we’re excited about them.”
According to NHL insider Frank Seravalli, the Leafs have indeed rejected a one-for-one trade proposal from the Philadelphia Flyers.
The deal would have sent infamous forward Scott Laughton to Toronto in exchange for top prospect Fraser Minten.

“I was told that the Flyers would be interested and willing to do Fraser Minten straight up for Scott Laughton,” Seravalli reported on Tuesday's "Daily Faceoff LIVE" show. “I was told that was also a ‘no’ for the Toronto Maple Leafs. The Flyers like Minten.”
Multiple NHL insiders have consistently reported that if the Leafs want to acquire an impactful player, they will likely have to part with a top prospect or a first-round pick.
Toronto, however, doesn't have its own 2025 first-round draft pick as they already moved it, making it more appealing to find suitors for a prospect rather than a further-down-the-road selection.
"I think they have accepted the fact that if they're going to get something that moves the needle, it's gonna cost them some combination of their No. 1 pick in 2026, Cowan, Minten, or Danford."

“I think [the Leafs] would love to do something that moves the needle,” Sportsnet's Elliotte Friedman said on "Leafs Morning Take" on Tuesday. “I think they have accepted the fact that if they’re going to get something that moves the needle, it’s going to cost them some combination of their No. 1 pick in 2026, Easton Cowan, Fraser Minten, or Ben Danford.”
Meanwhile, Sportsnet’s Justin Bourne has also suggested that Toronto will need to be aggressive if it wants to add a legitimate difference-maker before the deadline.
“The Leafs don’t need a deadline where they add a couple bottom-six grinders and a seventh defenseman,” Bourne wrote. “They need to separate themselves with a bigger move.
"(The Maple Leafs) don’t have a ton of assets, but to acquire a real player they'll have to give someone up," Bourne wrote.
