As the Anaheim Ducks continue their offseason, the restricted free agency of center Mason McTavish has remained a key issue. The two sides are reportedly far apart in contract talks, and this has led to a stalemate between them.
Due to this, trade speculation has run rampant, with multiple opposing teams seeing what it would take to land McTavish. Anaheim has set a high asking price for the young sta r, and for now, it doesn't seem like a trade will go down.
Rasmus Andersson to the Ducks?
NHL writer Ryan Dixon of Sportsnet listed a few trade spots for McTavish, with the Calgary Flames being mentioned. Dixon suggested that the two rivals could potentially swap players, with McTavish going to Calgary and disgruntled defender Rasmus Andersson going to the Ducks.
"So, how about Southern California?
"Andersson has some no-trade protection, but Anaheim could be an appealing place to both play and stay, given the lifestyle and upward trajectory of the franchise," Dixon wrote.
If the Ducks could land Ande rsson in a deal for McTavish, the team may be more willing to move the young center. Andersson could help bolster the Anaheim defense, and he could bring some needed veteran experience as well.
Last season with the Flames, Andersson put up 11 goals and 20 assists over 81 regular-season games played. Anaheim is looking to make a run to the playoffs this year, and Andersson could help them get over the hump.
Mason McTavish to Calgary?
If the Flames were to add McTavish, it would give them a young center to build forward with. McTavish has shown improvement in every season that he has been in the NHL< and he could thrive playing in Calgary.
McTavish scored 22 goals and 30 assists last year with the Ducks, and he could fit in well with the Flames' plan for the future. Calgary has to get back to real contention, and this trade idea could help things.
With each team dealing with a contract issue, the two sides could solve a problem with a swap. It remains to be seen if the Ducks or Flames will move either player, but this could be an interesting idea to consider.
