McDonald's Makes Big Connor McDavid Announcement

The joke follows the recent rebranding of two McDonald’s locations in Canada—one in Edmonton and one in McDavid’s hometown of Newmarket—to “McDavid’s” in honor of his overtime winner that secured gold for Team Canada.

McDonald's Canada had initially promised to rename a location if McDavid brought a Stanley Cup to Edmonton, but after his game-winning goal against the USA in February, they decided to fulfill the pledge anyway.

The tribute included new signage, promotional deals like $0.97 fries (with 97 being McDavid's uniform number both in Edmonton and Canada's national team), and the continued availability of the “Big Mac-David” burger.

McDavid’s golden goal at the 4 Nations tournament drew immediate comparisons to Sidney Crosby’s legendary 2010 Olympic winner, with Crosby himself acknowledging the moment.

“Really fitting,” Crosby said. “The level that he plays at, he’s got that ability every single night to change a game.”

McDavid remains the face of Canadian hockey, and it feels inevitable that he'll eventually fulfill the nation's dream of bringing the Stanley Cup back home and winning it with the Oilers after he already led them to Game 7 of the Stanley Cup Final.
