Michkov Trade Rumours Called 'Laughable' in Latest Update

The Philadelphia Flyers have no intention of trading Matvei Michkov, a new update suggests, pushing back against an unverified video claiming the young forward would be moved within the next 24 hours. The video circulated Thursday morning and named the Edmonton Oilers among the teams alleged to have submitted an offer. It did not claim a trade to Edmonton was agreed upon, but the suggestion of an imminent move quickly fuelled discussion about a potential blockbuster.

Brandon J. Sommermann later pushed back on the speculation, citing two Flyers sources who said Philadelphia had no intention of trading Michkov and was not considering a move. One source called the rumours “laughable,” while another dismissed them as “bogus.”

Flyers Pushback Challenges the 24-Hour Claim

The most significant part of Sommermann’s update is how directly it challenges the video’s central premise. The original claim suggested a decision was approaching quickly. The response he relayed suggests Philadelphia is not pursuing that decision at all.

There is an important distinction, however. Saying the Flyers do not intend to trade Michkov does not independently establish whether another team submitted an offer. Clubs can express interest in players who are unavailable, and an unsolicited proposal does not mean negotiations followed.

The alleged Edmonton offer therefore remains unverified. Sommermann’s update should not be stretched into confirmation or denial of a specific conversation between the teams. What it does provide is firm pushback against the suggestion that Philadelphia is preparing to move Michkov imminently.

Oilers Trade Package Remains Hypothetical

The earlier Oilers discussion examined a proposed package while identifying the unverified nature of the claim behind it. The latest update reinforces why that distinction was necessary. There is an obvious appeal to imagining Michkov alongside Edmonton’s offensive stars. A creative forward with scoring ability would give the Oilers another intriguing option and invite plenty of debate about line combinations.

But a desirable fit for Edmonton does not explain why Philadelphia would agree to move him. The Flyers would need to believe the return justified surrendering a young player with considerable offensive potential. Nothing in Sommermann’s update suggests they have reached that conclusion. Instead, the position he relayed indicates that debating the package has run ahead of evidence that Michkov is available.

Instagram Speculation Offers No Supporting Proof

The morning’s claim also followed earlier Instagram speculation surrounding changes to Michkov’s account. Those changes never established that a trade was coming and cannot substantiate the separate allegation that Edmonton made an offer. For now, the story is a clash between an unverified prediction of a trade within 24 hours and Sommermann’s account of two Flyers sources dismissing that possibility.

The next meaningful development would be substantiated reporting about actual discussions or a public comment from management. Until then, the Oilers’ alleged involvement remains unconfirmed, while the latest information from the Philadelphia side points toward Michkov staying put.
