Minnesota Wild GM Bill Guerin and Marco Rossi have finally agreed on a new contract, as the RFA forward has signed a 3 year contract.
The contract standoff between the Minnesota Wild and RFA forward has now come to an end.
Rossi has agreed to a new 3-year contract, ending the stalemate between himself and general manager Bill Guerin that had lasted nearly all summer long.
The news was first broken by NHL analyst Frank Seravalli:
Expecting Marco Rossi's bridge deal with #mnwild to come in at 3 years x $5 million flat. Nice compromise after an uncertain summer for Rossi in Minnesota.
Marco Rossi's deal will carry a $5 million AAV. $4 million, $5 million, $6 million, so his QO heading into his unrestricted year will be $6 million.
Rossi had a breakout year with the Wild, reaching a new career-best 60 points (24G, 36A) in all 82 games. But his ice time was drastically reduced and he was relegated to Minnesota's bottom-6 of forward units during their loss in the WCQF to the Vegas Golden Knights.
The contract standoff between the Wild and Rossi was a distraction and cause of concern for Wild fans, but now that he's agreed to a new contract, the team can focus on the upcoming year.
The Wild have not advanced past the WCQF in over a decade, with their last series win coming over the St. Louis Blues in 2015. That was only the 3rd year in the tenures of former Wild players Zach Parise and Ryan Suter, both of whom would be bought out in 2021.
Their contract buyouts only recently came off the books, freeing up more valuable salary cap space.
