Halfway through this year's draft, the Minnesota Wild and the Washington Capitals announced that they've agreed on the terms of a trade.
Indeed, the Capitals acquired defenseman Declan Chisholm and the 180th overall pick in the 2025 Draft from the Wild in return for Chase Priskie and the 123rd overall pick.
Read the full details of the deal here:
This trade gave Minnesota a slight upgrade in draft rankings while Washington took a chance on a younger defenseman with some NHL experience, along with an extra pick.
Chisholm, 25, took part in 66 games with the Wild last season and scored 12 points. The 6'1", 190-pound defenseman was drafted 150th overall by the Winnipeg Jets in the 2018 NHL Draft.
Priskie, 29, was drafted 177th overall by the Capitals in 2016, but has only taken part in four games in the NHL since. He spent the past six years in the AHL, playing for many teams such as the Hershey Bears, the San Diego Gulls, and the Rochester Americans.
The two players involved in the deal are unlikely to hold big roles on their new teams. What will determine the trade's success will be who the team ends up drafting at the 123rd pick.
However, it'll be interesting to see if they can cause a surprise at training camp.
By adding that pick, the team ended up with three fourth-round picks this year, after having nothing in the first and third rounds.
Stay tuned for further updates from the NHL.
