Evander Kane just moved from one Canadian team to another, and now a mock trade sees him acquired by the Toronto Maple Leafs in a surprise deal.
Evander Kane missed the entire 2024/25 regular season with the Edmonton Oilers, but upon his return in the Stanley Cup Playoffs, he was fantastic once again, tallying 6 goals and 12 points in 21 games played.
Shortly after the Oilers loss to the Florida Panthers however, Kane was dealt to the Vancouver Canucks in a salary cap dump by the Oilers.
Now, a mock trade has him staying in Canada but heading East.
In a recent piece from Heavy Sports, there has been a proposed mock trade involving Kane and the Toronto Maple Leafs, with the team giving up their top prospect and two veterans to land the star winger.
Maple Leafs Acquire:
Evander Kane ($5.125 million)Canucks Acquire:
Max Domi ($3.75 million)
Calle Jarnkrok ($2.1 million)
Easton Cowan ($873,500)
On paper, this deal is a clear win for Vancouver, as they simply take on two veteran contracts to unload Kane while landing one of Toronto's most exciting young prospects in Easton Cowan.
For the Maple Leafs however, it's a deal that they could likely do better than elsewhere, with many wingers likely to be available in a deal that won't force them to give up Cowan.
Ultimately, this one would be a no-brainer for Vancouver if the Maple Leafs offered it, and while they're hoping that Kane can help them push for a run at the Stanley Cup in 2025/26, if they're not fully in the race at the trade deadline, don't be shocked to see them deal Kane.
