Montreal Canadiens trade Nathan Legare to New Jersey Devils for Arnaud Durandeau

Durandeau, 25, is a native of Montreal. Drafted 165th overall by the New York Islanders in 2017, Durandeau was already traded this season, going from Long Island to the Devils in exchange for Tyce Thompson back in late November. Durandeau has some NHL experience, registering two penalty minutes in four games with the Islanders last year. Currently in his fifth AHL season, Durandeau has 18 points in 38 games between Bridgeport and Utica this year.

Legare is also a Montreal native, but never got a chance to play with the Canadiens. He has nine points in 39 games with Laval as a tough depth forward who isn’t afraid to block shots. The third-year AHLer was drafted 74th overall by the Pittsburgh Penguins in 2019 and would go on to spend two seasons with the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins before leaving the organization last summer.

Durandeau is set to become an RFA this summer at the conclusion of his one-year deal worth $762,500. The same goes for Legare, who has a cap hit of $789,167 in the NHL.
