A potential trade between the New York Rangers and Anaheim Ducks involving longtime Rangers forward Chris Kreider continues to gain momentum.
The New York Rangers have undergone multiple changes in recent months, including the trade of now-former captain Jacob Trouba to the Anaheim Ducks, the trade of Filip Chytil to the Vancouver Canucks for JT Miller, and most recently, the firing of coach Peter Laviolette.
After the Rangers failed to make the playoffs, GM Chris Drury dismissed Laivolette and hired Mike Sullivan, who had been let go by the Pittsburgh Penguins.
Speaking of the Anaheim Ducks, there is momentum being gained on a potential deal that would send Chris Kreider, the longest-tenured member of the Rangers, to the West Coast.
Now, additional details about the potential impending trade have been released per Frank Seravalli of The Daily Faceoff.
The talks, which sources stressed had not reached the finish line, were slated to continue on Wednesday. But there was mutual interest between the parties and the framework of a deal in place. The most recent discussions centered on Ducks prospect Carey Terrance, an upstate New York native and 2023 second-round pick, heading to the Rangers in a swap that would see the Ducks take on Kreider's contract in-full. Kreider, 34, has two years remaining on his contract at $6.5 million per year.
Additionally, per Pierre LeBrun, Kreider would need to remove the Ducks from his no-trade list to facilitate a deal.
Kreider, who was taken 19th overall by the Rangers in the 2009 NHL Entry Draft, has played his entire career with the club.
He has 582 points (326G, 256A) in 883 career games.
