Rick Tocchet was a huge hire for the Philadelphia Flyers this off-season, and now, their new Head Coach has brought with him a key assistant from Vancouver as the Flyers continue to assemble a fantastic coaching staff.
This off-season, we've already seen upwards of seven Head Coaching changes around the NHL, but none were bigger than the hire of Rick Tocchet as the new Head Coach of the Philadelphia Flyers.
The team were desperate to land a culture changer following the departure of John Tortorella, and they did just that, bringing in a coach with 11 years as a player in Philadelphia, who many consider to be one of the best coaches in the league today.
However, we've heard little about the coaching staff that he's bringing with him, until Wednesday, when David Pagnotta of The Fourth Period revealed that Yogi Svejkovsky will be leaving the Canucks to join him.
This was a huge hire for Philadelphia, as Insider Rick Dhaliwal has revealed the team were desperate to keep him in Vancouver, but given his relationship with Tocchet, it's no surprise that he departed to join the Flyers.
Svejkovsky has been in Vancouver for a long time, first working with the WHL's Vancouver Giants before joining the Abbotsford Canucks for three years, before finally rising to the NHL last season, gaining immense respect within the locker room as a coach of the future.
This leaves a massive hole on the Canucks coaching staff, so we will wait and see how they fill that in the coming days, but for now, it looks like a fantastic staff is being built in Philly as they look to continue their upward trajectory.
