Ahead of what could be his final season in the NHL, all-time leading goal scorer and Washington Capitals captain Alex Ovechkin is hard at work in the gym.

While there remains widespread speculation about the future of Washington Capitals captain Alex Ovechkin with the team beyond 2025-26, he remains hard at work getting his body ready for another grind of 82 games and postseason play.

Ovechkin, who is now the NHL's all-time leading goal scorer after having broken Wayne Gretzky's previous mark of 894 goals, is back from vacation and is in the gym training with his longtime trainer, Pavel Burlachenko.

Ovechkin recently said that he's going to give it his all despite being on the cusp of 40 years of age.

To be honest with you, you never thought how many games you're going to play. You never think how many goals you're going to score because you never know what's going to happen on the ice. I was lucky enough this year to be able to score the goals to break the record, obviously, and I'm looking forward for next year. I'm going to be 40 and I'm going to try to do my best to play and my team is going to help me, too.
To be honest with you, I haven't thought about it yet, but we'll see what's going to happen. Obviously, I'm going to try to do my best to be able to do well next year and, how I said, we'll see.

2025-26 will be the 21st year in the NHL for Ovechkin, and it's also the final year of his current contract. Ovechkin has yet to publicly announce whether he intends on making this year his last in the NHL, or if he could potentially play beyond his current deal.
