New Jersey Devils Deal Simon Nemec to Calgary Flames

The New Jersey Devils agreed to a big trade this afternoon as they’re reportedly sending defenseman Simon Nemec to the Calgary Flames along with forward Maxim Tsyplakov. The Devils are getting two first-round picks from the Flames. The Golden Knights’ 2027 first-round pick and the Avalanche’s 2028 first-round pick. They’re also getting a 2026 second-round pick (35th overall) and defensive prospect, Etienne Morin. Both drafted picks are top-10 protected. Nemec is an RFA on July 1st, and there’s no extension yet.

Devils & Flames Trade

Nemec, in 68 games this season for the Devils, had 26 points on 11 goals and 15 assists. He was a -11 with a power-play goal, three game-winning goals, 23 hits, and 104 blocked shots. In three seasons, he has appeared in 155 games for New Jersey. Nemec has 49 points on 16 goals and 33 assists. He’s a -28 with a power-play goal, five game-winning goals, 235 blocked shots, and 47 hits. Tsyplakov is also heading to Calgary. He played in 27 games for the Islanders, recording a goal and an assist, then was traded to New Jersey, where he had a goal and an assist in 22 games.

Morin is a 21-year-old forward defenseman who played in 42 games for the Calgary Wranglers in the AHL, recording seven points on a goal and six assists; he was a minus-six. He also appeared in seven games with the Rapid City Rush in the ECHL. He had a goal and two assists and was a plus-three.
