New Jersey Devils Extend Qualifying Offers To Two Players

Luke Hughes and Cody Glass Receive Offers

Luke Hughes– There’s no doubt that the Devils were looking to bring back one of their promising young defenders in Luke Hughes. The 21-year-old defenseman is coming off his entry-level contract after being drafted fourth overall by the Devils in 2021. In 155 games with the Devils, Hughes put up 17 goals and 76 assists for 93 points. Hughes underwent shoulder surgery in May, but is expected to be ready for the start of training camp.

Cody Glass– The 26-year-old forward was traded to the Devils at the deadline in a deal that saw Chase Stillman and the rights to Max Graham head to Pittsburgh. In 14 games with New Jersey, he put up two goals and five assists for seven points. During his six seasons in the NHL, Glass has 35 goals and 58 assists for 93 points in 252 games. He’s seen action in eight career Stanley Cup Playoff games.

Who They Didn’t Offer Qualifying Offers To

Santeri Hatakka– The 24-year-old defenseman had spent the last two seasons in the Devils organization. Hatakka had a rough year as he was hurt during the pre-season and didn’t see any game action until February. In 19 games with the Utica Comets, he would put up a goal and an assist. During his time with the Devils, he appeared in 12 NHL games, recording two assists. Hatakka recently signed a two-year contract to play in Sweden.

Nolan Foote– The 24-year-old forward’s time with the Devils has come to an end after spending five seasons in the organization. The majority of his playing time came in the AHL, where he’s put up 62 goals and 67 assists for 129 points in 191 games with the Binghampton Devils/Utica Comets. Foote has also seen some action in the NHL, playing in 30 games, with six goals and three assists.

Isaac Poulter– The 23-year-old goaltender spent three seasons in the Devils organization, with all of his playing time coming in the ECHL and AHL. Poulter saw the occasional call-ups last season to New Jersey, but didn’t see any action. In 36 games with the Comets last season, the Winnipeg, Manitoba, native went 16-13-7 with a 2.86 GAA, .898SV%, and one shutout. In 77 career games, he went 40-24-11 with a 2.88 GAA, .900SV%, and five shutouts.

During the first two years of his career, Poulter appeared in 28 games with the Adirondack Thunder, where he went 15-8-2 with a 2.82 GAA, a .911 SV%, and one shutout. He proved to be a big piece for Adirondack during their 2024 Kelly Cup Playoff run. He went 6-0 at the end of the regular season. Poulter went 7-8 with a 1.86 GAA, .939SV%, and four shutouts during the 2024 Kelly Cup Playoffs.
