Every year, the King Clancy Memorial Trophy is awarded to “the player who best exemplifies leadership qualities on and off the ice and who has made a noteworthy humanitarian contribution in his community.” For the second consecutive season, the New Jersey Devils have nominated star forward, Jack Hughes.
It’s no secret that Hughes is a monumental piece of the Devils’ franchise, but his involvement translates far beyond the ice. Since being drafted first overall in 2019, Hughes has been heavily involved in youth hockey, making the game more accessible, and providing kids the opportunity to experience the sport.
Proud of Jack and the work he does in our community!

Last year, Hughes and his younger brother Luke were named official ambassadors for the Hockey in New Jersey (HNJ) program at the 2024 “Playing it Forward Gala.”
HNJ allows children ages 6-18 to build relationships, cultivate life skills, and benefit from coaching. Hughes has participated in numerous HNJ clinics throughout the season, and even worked closely with Bauer to provide the program with all-new equipment. In his personal time, Hughes frequents Newark’s Ironbound Rink to be more involved with HNJ’s participants. He is also heavily involved with the Devils Youth Foundation and the Jersey Girls Hockey Club.
The Hockey in New Jersey program gives kids a chance to learn and play hockey free of cost. It's a staple in growing the game within the NJ community. To celebrate their commitment, we teamed up with @jhugh86 to create a holiday surprise at their home rink. #EverythingForTheGame pic.twitter.com/NDCsj8BgKf

Despite being unable to participate in the Devils’ upcoming playoff run, Hughes has made a major difference in the community and deserves recognition for the work he does for children across New Jersey. Devils & Prudential Center President Jake Reynolds had nothing but praise for Hughes, stating that he “embodies the values of commitment, leadership, and community engagement.”
The King Clancy Memorial Trophy will be announced at the 2025 NHL Awards. All 32 teams contribute their nomination, and the winner will be decided by the Professional Hockey Writers Association and the NHL Broadcasters’ Association.
