BREAKING: #NJDevils part ways with GM Tom Fitzgerald
— NHL News (@PuckReportNHL) April 6, 2026
Fitzgerald was named Devils GM back on July 9, 2020, and was given a multi-year contract extension on Jan. 23, 2024. He is the second GM to be fired this year, with the Maple Leafs firing Brad Treliving back on March 30.
It has been a disappointing season for the Devils. The team sits at 40-34-3 and seven points out of a playoff spot with five games left. The Devils are on the verge of missing the playoffs for the sixth time in the last eight seasons.
The Devils have an exciting team filled with superstars such as Jack Hughes and Nico Hischier. With the team also projected to land a top 12 pick in the upcoming NHL draft, there should be plenty of interested candidates.
