Connor McDavid is yet to have discussions with Oilers management on a new deal, and now we know exactly what's behind the holdup with the team captain.

After failing in the Stanley Cup Finals for a second straight season, the talk of the Edmonton Oilers off-season thus far has been the future of captain Connor McDavid, who just so happens to headline a loaded free agency class in the summer of 2026.

At this point in time, the belief is that McDavid will sign a short-term extension with the team to likely remain in Edmonton for the next 3-4 seasons, but thus far, a new deal between McDavid and the Oilers has yet to be struck, with insider Chris Johnston revealing that talks haven't even begun yet.

Now, Johnston has been called out on social media for his take, as fans of the Oilers noted that McDavid is very busy in the foreseeable future.

New Report Sheds Light On Connor McDavid Extension Talks

The fans in question noted that both his brother and Leon Draisaitl are getting married in the next few weeks, making him quite the busy person.

While McDavid's team could make contact with the Oilers, it's best to allow the players their much needed time off after a long season, and clearly, neither party is too worried about things at the moment.

The next deal from McDavid could define the Western Conference and the entire NHL landscape, so while fans may be getting impatient, it could be quite some time until we hear news on a new deal.

Last year, we saw Draisaitl extend his deal in Edmonton in September, so there's no panic at all from McDavid or the Oilers, but if they go into the season without a new deal, perhaps panic could then set in.
