A new trade development has surfaced involving current Calgary Flames forward Nazem Kadri and the Toronto Maple Leafs, his former club. Is a reunion in the works between them?
The Toronto Maple Leafs shocked and angered many of their fans when they traded Nazem Kadri to the Colorado Avalanche in 2019 after their 2nd straight postseason loss in Game 7 to the divisional foe Boston Bruins.
While Kadri eventually went on to enjoy success with the Avalanche by winning the Stanley Cup in 2022, the Maple Leafs still have only a pair of postseason series wins since then.
After their most recent defeat at the hands of the Florida Panthers this spring, major changes have already been made to the organization, including the trade of Mitch Marner to the Vegas Golden Knights along with not bringing back team president Brendan Shanahan.
Via Terry Koshan of The Toronto Sun, Kadri could potentially be leaving the door open to coming back to the Leafs and would have no problem waiving his no-trade clause to facilitate a move, while also noting that he's in no hurry to leave Calgary and enjoys playing there.
An NHL source said on Wednesday, however, that Kadri would not let his no-move clause stand in the way of agreeing to a trade to Toronto. At the same time, it was stressed to us that Kadri enjoys playing in Calgary and is not looking to be moved.
The Maple Leafs took Kadri with the 7th overall pick in the 2009 NHL Entry Draft, and he'd play the 1st several years of his career with the club before the aforementioned 2019 trade.
This year in Calgary, Kadri scored a career-best 35 goals, beating his previous high output in 2017-18 in Toronto with 32.
