Nathan MacKinnon’s 1,000th career NHL point marked a historic moment for both the right and wrong reasons, but what happened in the Colorado Avalanche locker room afterward made the night even better.
Shortly after Monday’s 3–0 win over the Chicago Blackhawks, the Avs posted an unseen video on X showing MacKinnon entering the locker room as his teammates erupted in celebration.
Once the cheering settled, the team honored him with a playful nod to his nickname—barking in unison to recognize “Nate Dogg.”
MacKinnon hit the milestone in the third period, assisting on Artturi Lehkonen’s goal just 31 seconds in. The 29-year-old later added another assist, bringing his career total to 1,001 points.

The Avalanche forward became the 100th player in NHL history to reach 1,000 points and the third in franchise history to do so entirely with Colorado, joining Joe Sakic and Peter Stastny.
MacKinnon joins a select group of active players with 1,000 career points that includes features true legends of the game.
The list only boasts 10 names in it including MacKinnon's after Monday: Sidney Crosby (1,664), Alexander Ovechkin (1,600), Evgeni Malkin (1,338), Patrick Kane (1,324), Anze Kopitar (1,262), Steven Stamkos (1,178), Claude Giroux (1,106), John Tavares (1,095) and Connor McDavid (1,064), the latter of whom notched his own 1,000th point earlier this season.

After the game, a humble MacKinnon downplayed the achievement.
“Obviously it’s a cool milestone, but it’s over now, and I look forward to tomorrow night,” MacKinnon said.

The 1,000th-point moment, however, wasn’t without drama. MacKinnon initially appeared to reach the mark in the first period on a Martin Necas goal, only for the play to be overturned on review.
"I actually thought about that before the game," MacKinnon admitted after the win when discussing the disallowed goal. "They were going to call it back when everyone came on."
The Avalanche's win on Monday moved them up to 80 points on the season and a 39-24-2 record, with Colorado now sitting third in the Central Division out West.
Colorado returns to action tonight facing the conference-rival Minnesota Wild, in possession of the first wild-card berth with 76 points and chasing the Avalanche in the standings.
