Alex Pietrangelo has been dealing with some injuries, and after the latest report, it appears he's set to miss all of next season due to surgeries.
The Vegas Golden Knights failed to make another deep Stanley Cup Playoffs run in 2024/25, and heading into the summer, they were expected to make many changes to this roster.
Now, one big change appears to have been thrust upon them, as the latest report on veteran defenseman Alex Pietrangelo isn't a good one, with David Pagnotta reporting a serious absence on the sideline for the 35-year old.
According to Pagnotta, Pietrangelo is dealing with some very serious injuries and is set for major surgery, which is likely to hold him out for the entire 2025/26 season, if not even longer.
This would be a huge loss for Vegas, as he was once again fantastic this past season, tallying 4 goals and 33 points in 71 games played as well as a +11 differential, but now, they're left with a serious hole on their blue line.
While the NHL appear set to change the rules around Long Term Injured Reserve, we know one team that has managed to use those loopholes in the past few years are the Golden Knights, and with the team trying to land some big names this summer, this could very well play into it.
As for Pietrangelo, at 35-years of age, this doesn't bode well for a return to the NHL, and after 1,087 regular season games at the NHL level, there are serious concerns if we'll ever see him on the ice again.
For now though, the hope is that he can get back to 100% health after all these injuries, and while that means he'll miss the entire 2025/26 campaign, there's still optimism that he can get healthy once more.
