NHL Insider Reveals Massive Interest in Rangers' Restricted Free Agent

The New York Rangers may be nearing a pivotal decision on defenseman K’Andre Miller, as NHL teams ramp up efforts to acquire the pending restricted free agent if he gets to the open market on July 1.

According to Frank Seravalli of Daily Faceoff, at least "12 to 15 teams" have inquired about the 25-year-old defenseman in recent weeks.

"I think the market for K'Andre Miller has been robust," Seravalli reported last week. "I think there have been 12 to 15 teams that have been interested.

"They see what a lot of people see, which is an effortless skater with size that can make some things happen."

Miller is coming off a bridge deal that carried a $3.872 million cap hit. His qualifying offer will be $4.646 million, and he has salary arbitration rights.

Seravalli said the level of interest has grown amid speculation that the Rangers aren’t prepared to give Miller a long-term extension.

"The Rangers see a guy that they need to pay (and) that they aren't sure that they want to pay," Seravalli said. "They know they need to retool their defense to defend better in front of Igor Shesterkin."

After a strong 43-point season in 2022–23, Miller's production dropped to 30 points in 2024 and then 27 this past year, appearing in 74 regular-season games.

Still, teams see upside in his 6-foot-5 frame, skating, and physicality. He has topped 100 hits in four straight seasons and logged heavy minutes in New York’s top four since entering the league in the 2020-21 season.
