The Dallas Stars appear motivated to move Jason Robertson this summer, and now a top insider has revealed the Hurricanes may come calling for the young star.
After failing to reach the Stanley Cup Finals once again in 2025, the Dallas Stars are expected to potentially make some big changes this off-season, with rumours circulating around one of their biggest stars.
According to many reports, the team are continuing to take calls on forward Jason Robertson, with the 25-year old potentially set to be on the move despite fantastic, consistent production over the past four years.
There are many moves out there that make sense for Robertson, but now, top NHL reporter Jeff Marek has brought up a very interesting scenario, speculating that the Stars could look to recoup some of their draft capital from the Carolina Hurricanes that they sent them in the deal for Mikko Rantanen.
In that deal, the Stars sent two conditional first-round picks (2026 and 2028) as well as third-round picks in 2026 and 2027 to the Hurricanes, and given Robertson's production, they could likely get most, if not all of that draft capital back in return for their rising star.
At this point in time, little is known about the Stars process of potentially moving Robertson and which teams are even interested, but with the Hurricanes having the fourth most salary cap space in the NHL this off-season, if the Stars wanted to recoup some picks to make other deals, this may be one to keep a close eye on.
Much was made about the Stars deal to land Rantanen from the Hurricanes, but things appeared to go fairly smoothly between the two parties, so it should be no surprise if they begin talking again, and if this one makes sense for both teams, look for another potential blockbuster thus summer.
