NHL Insider Shares Update on Kyle Connor's Contract Extension Talks with Winnipeg Jets

Kyle Connor's future in the Jets could define this team for years to come, and now David Pagnotta has revealed several key details on a potential extension.

This off-season, the Winnipeg Jets saw star winger Nikolaj Ehlers depart in free agency, and heading into the new season, it appeared as though they'll have something else to worry about with Kyle Connor's impending free agency.

Unsurprisingly, the Michigan native has already been linked to his home town team in the Detroit Red Wings, and now, NHL Insider David Pagnotta has shared an update on Connor's situation in Winnipeg.

Connor signing a massive new deal with the Jets?

In his latest report, David Pagnotta revealed that the Jets and Connor are set to begin extension talks next week, with his new deal likely to start with a $1 and be followed by seven 0's.

'Talks between the Winnipeg Jets and Kyle Connor's camp are also expected to pick up as early as this week, and his next deal will start with a $1 followed by at least seven zeroes'

These talks come on the back of a career year for Connor, who posted an impressive 41 goals and 97 points in 82 games played, with the point total being the best of his career while it represented the second 40-goal season of his career.

Now, the veteran winger will be 29-years of age when he officially reaches free agency, but with the Jets not eager to let him go like they did Ehlers, they'll be doing everything they can to lock him in before then.

With a bright future ahead and a connection to Winnipeg and the organization, Connor could become a franchise icon if he signs long-term, and while they are still looking for that deep, defining post-season run, bringing back Connor is a move that makes sense for all sides.
