NHL Makes Scoring Change After Oilers-Senators Game

The NHL announced a scoring correction following the Ottawa Senators’ 3–2 overtime loss to the Edmonton Oilers on Tuesday night at Canadian Tire Centre.

The update was posted by the NHL Public Relations account on X: “OFFICIAL SCORING CHANGE: Game 99 @EdmontonOilers at @Senators.

“Goal at 0:13 of the third period now reads Dylan Cozens from Drake Batherson and Tim Stützle. #NHLStats.”

The correction officially credited Batherson and Stutzle with assists on Cozens’ early third-period power-play goal, which initially appeared unassisted during live play.

Starting with that goal, Ottawa began its third-period rally from a two-goal deficit after it trailed 2–0 entering the final frame.

Cozens’ wrist shot from the slot beat Oilers goaltender Stuart Skinner blocker side just 13 seconds in. Ottawa tied the game less than two minutes later when Thomas Chabot’s point shot made it through traffic and past Skinner to even the score at two.

The comeback effort was short-lived, however, as Jake Walman scored 2:24 into overtime to give the Oilers the win in his season debut by hammering a slap shot from the top of the slot to snap Edmonton’s three-game losing streak.

Oilers goalie Skinner stopped 21 shots to earn his 100th NHL victory, while Connor McDavid scored his first goal of the season and rookie Isaac Howard notched his first NHL goal. For Ottawa, Linus Ullmark made 22 saves in the loss.

The Senators fell to 2–4–1 on the season, while Edmonton improved to 3–3–1, with both teams still in the bottom half of their respective conference standings.

The Senators conclude their four-game homestand Thursday against the Philadelphia Flyers, while the Oilers return home to face the Montreal Canadiens.
