The NHL community is mourning the death of a former goaltender and longtime television analyst, who passed away Monday at the age of 67.
Greg Millen passed away on Monday, and no cause of death was disclosed by the league when the NHL confirmed the news in a statement.
"The NHL is saddened by the passing of Greg Millen, a veteran of 14 NHL seasons as a goaltender and more than three decades as a broadcaster," the NHL posted on its PR account on X. "Millen will be missed as a respected TV analyst on Hockey Night in Canada and with Sportsnet. Our thoughts are with his family, his broadcasting team and his many friends in the game."
Drafted in the sixth round by Pittsburgh in 1977, Millen appeared in 604 NHL games across 14 seasons for six teams. His best years came with the St. Louis Blues, where he led the league in shutouts in 1988–89 and finished fifth in Vezina Trophy voting.

It was his work after retirement that cemented Millen’s status as a household name across Canada.
Millen started his off-ice career by joining the Ottawa Senators as their first-ever color commentator in 1992–93 and was soon working national broadcasts. Those included the 1994 Winter Olympics and, eventually, CBC’s "Hockey Night in Canada."
Millen became co-lead on that show in 2007, paired with Bob Cole, and remained a key voice on national and regional NHL broadcasts for more than 25 years.
"Greg left an indelible mark on the sport as as everyone who had the pleasure to know him, watch him, and listen to him," Sportsnet said in a statement. "With his infectious passion for the game, sharp insights, and quick wit, Greg was a trusted and familiar voice in the homes of millions of Canadians for more than 30 years."
"The Pittsburgh Penguins extend their heartfelt condolences to the family and friends of former Penguins goaltender and NHL broadcaster, Greg Millen," the franchise wrote in a statement.
In all, Millen recorded 215 wins and 17 shutouts before retiring in 1992.
