It’s a light night on the ice in this round of NHL predictions. We’ve got a Metropolitan Division matchup between the Washington Capitals and the Philadelphia Flyers in this featured game. Both teams did some selling at the deadline and are going into the second-to-last meeting with different lineups.

Washington sits seven points off the second wild card spot held by the Boston Bruins entering this matchup. The Capitals made a surprising move in dealing longtime defensive fixture John Carlson to the Anaheim Ducks at the deadline. It seems like the division champs will be out for the Stanley Cup Playoffs.

Philadelphia has shown improvements under new coach Rick Tocchet. However, the Flyers seem destined to miss the postseason for the sixth consecutive season.

Let’s take a look at the stats and storylines going into this Wednesday night game of NHL predictions.

The Capitals Story

Washington heads into this matchup with a 6-4 record in its last 10 games. The Capitals beat the Calgary Flames in their last time on ice. That loss stopped a three-game losing streak.

Logan Thompson is the projected starter for Washington. However, always check social media before locking in a daily fantasy starter. Thompson is 22-18-4 with a 2.39 goals-against-average and .912 save percentage.

Alex Ovehkin is tied with Tom Wilson for the team’s lead in points 24 and is first in points with 50. Dylan Strome is tops in assists with 34.

The Flyers Story

Philadelphia is 5-3-2 in its previous 10 games but lost to the New York Rangers in their last outing. The Flyers sit in sixth in the division but have played plenty of overtime hockey this season.

Czech Olympian Daniel Vladar is the probable starter for Philadelphia. He’s been one of the bright spots with 20-11-6 and a 2.41 GAA. Vladar is also carrying a .903 save percentage doesn’t season.

Travis Konecny leads the team in goals (23), assists (34), and points (57). Trevor Zegras is also having a solid first season in Philadelphia with 52 points.

Prediction

Both clubs seem destined to miss the postseason. However, there’s plenty to play for between these old rivals. There’s always a bit of an edge when these two go at it.

However, Washington should get the victory in this game. The Capitals have a little more offensive firepower.

Prediction: Capitals win 4-2.

Best Bets

We close out NHL predictions with some prop bets of the night. The over/under for the Flyers and the Capitals is 5.5, and we like the under in this game.

As for individual props, go with Aliaksei Protas to get a goal for Washington. On the Philadelphia side of things, go with Konecny to get a point in this game.
