NHL Rumour Report: Elliotte Friedman on the FAN Hockey Show on the Winnipeg Jets: “The one thing I could also see with them…their history is they like to try to acquire people with term, so I’ve kinda been looking around; who’s got term who might be available.”
NHL Rumour Report: Frank Seravalli and Bob Stauffer on Oilers Now earlier this week on if there could be a deal out there in the next two weeks.
“Bob Stauffer: Is there anybody you could foresee getting moved here?
Frank Seravalli: In the short term?
Stauffer: Yeah, like in the next two weeks.
Seravalli: Rasmus Andersson; they wanna get…that file off their plate well before the Olympics if possible.”
NHL Rumour Report: David Pagnotta on Daily Faceoff Live on the San Jose Sharks: “They’re also looking for some veteran presence up front; guys that are NHL proven, that have years under their belt, probably in the mid 20s, that they can build off of and slot into that top 6.”
Nick Kypreos of the Toronto Star: The Eastern Conference remain wide open with the Toronto Maple Leafs in the middle of it. The Leafs have been going for it for years with little success, and the stakes are high for the Leafs.
The Leafs, Florida Panthers and Tampa Bay Lightning are among the Atlantic teams with little trade assets, where the Detroit Red Wings, Buffalo Sabres, and Montreal Canadiens have plenty of assets to work with.
The Leafs don’t have their first or second-round pick this year, or their first next year.
Missing the playoffs and not selling off any pending free agents wouldn’t be a disaster. Pending free agents include Bobby McMann, Oliver Ekman-Larsson, Nick Robertson, Nicolas Roy, Max Domi, Steven Lorentz, Scott Laughton, and Troy Stecher. It’s an important time leading up to the deadline for the Leafs.
McMann could get as much as $4 million on the open market. He’s got size, speed, shooting, but he’s inconsistent. They could get two quality pieces if they traded him.
