The Carolina Hurricanes have added muscle to their roster by adding Nic Deslauriers from the Philadelphia Flyers for a conditional seventh-round pick.
The 35-year-old winger is known as one of the league’s top heavyweights, and he’s fit like a glove in Philadelphia since signing there as a free agent in the 2022 offseason.
Deslauriers is going to Carolina for a late pick, another league veteran being done right by the team they’re playing for. The former 84th overall draft selection by the Los Angeles Kings has played for the Buffalo Sabres, Montreal Canadiens, Anaheim Ducks, Minnesota Wild, and the Philadelphia Flyers across 13 NHL seasons.
Deslauriers has also suited up for the Manchester Monarchs, Rochester Americans, and the Laval Rocket when he’s played in the American Hockey League.
The rugged forward stands at 6-foot-1 and has a long list of taking on some of the toughest players in the NHL. He’s suited up in 701 career NHL games, where he’s posted 105 points (53G, 52A) and 794 PIMs in that time.
Carolina adds the needed muscle to their lineup as they chase another deep playoff run with the group of players they do have. Deslaurier adds veteran experience in the Hurricanes’ bottom-six, and it will be his first real taste of a lengthy playoff run.
To date, Deslauriers has suited up in just five Stanley Cup Playoff games, all with the Minnesota Wild in the 2022 Stanley Cup Playoffs.
While it’s not the game-breaking trade that Carolina might’ve swung for, Deslauriers adds a level of physicality to the Hurricanes’ lineup they lacked in previous years.
