No one is talking about Joshua Roy’s injury

With the Canadiens’ success and the just-concluded World Junior Championship, the Laval Rocket hasn’t been getting much love lately.

So, how is our Rocket doing?

They’re sitting atop their division with a 21-11-1 record, and only the Grand Rapids Griffins have scored more goals than Laval since the start of the AHL campaign.

Kaapo Kahkonen (11-2-1) in Laval and holding down the fort in the absence of Jacob Fowler. Hunter Jones, on the other hand, is struggling (0-2-0), but we expect to see a young goalie currently with the Habs return to Laval soon. Will it be Jacob Fowler or Jakub Dobes? We’ll see.

Up front, everything is going well. Laurent Dauphin (38 points in 30 games), Alex Belzile (31 points in 30 games), and Sean Farrell (27 points in 33 games) are doing all the talking down there. Dauphin is under contract with the Rocket, Belzile will be eligible for full autonomy in a few months, and Farrell for restricted autonomy. Will the Rocket be able to keep these three guys next year?

And will Alex Belzile get his chance with the big club before the end of the season? It’ll be complicated, with all the injured forwards returning.

But the thing that struck me most this morning while looking into the Rocket was the news that Joshua Roy has an upper-body injury and will miss between four and six weeks of activity… and that this announcement went completely over like butter.

Not so long ago, Roy was a prospect who attracted a lot of attention and optimism from Canadiens fans. Now, with 18 points in 22 games in Laval, three games with the Habs – and a three-game suspension in the AHL – it seems that no one believes in his chances of becoming a regular player with the Montreal Canadiens. Things change fast in the hockey world.

The Rocket announced 24 hours ago that Roy would miss four to six weeks of action, and a grand total of TWO people commented on the Rocket’s tweet.

No one has commented on Renaud Lavoie’s tweet, InfoBeauce’s, Vincent Demuy’s, Noovo Info’s or TVA Sports’.

In short, Joshua Roy’s injury doesn’t interest fans. It provokes no reaction, positive or negative. We’re in a state of indifference here.

It’s a far cry from the guy Connor Bedard was praising at the World Junior Championships three years ago, unfortunately.

One thing I wonder, though: will this absence allow Roy to resume the signing he ghosted and then promised to resume for free?

Overtime

– Great Patrick!

– Will Sheldon Keefe survive this thaw with the Devils?

The Jets – like other Canadiens teams – have been snapping them up for a while.

– How could Ryan Reaves have been allowed back in third? I’d like to think he could name the months of the year backwards, but…
