Coming into this off-season, Erik Karlsson was seen as a major trade candidate in Pittsburgh, and now it's been confirmed that he's willing to waive his NMC.
The Pittsburgh Penguins come into this off-season on the back of missing the Stanley Cup Playoffs for the third straight season, and that has seemingly prompted plenty of potential change within the organization.
Names like Bryan Rust and Rickard Rakell are seemingly on the trade block, but reportedly, it's former Norris Trophy winner Erik Karlsson who is the most likely to be moved as Pittsburgh and GM Kyle Dubas look to pivot towards a rebuild this summer.
Now, a report from The Fourth Period has revealed that he is indeed willing to waive his no-movement clause for a contending team as he looks for one final push at winning a Stanley Cup.
On top of that, the Penguins are actively shopping the veteran blue liner, and they are potentially set to retain money on his $10 million contract, and if that happens, it's safe to say that there's some great fits out there this summer.
This past season, Karlsson was still fairly productive, tallying 11 goals and 53 points in 82 games played, but at 35-years of age, he simply doesn't match Pittsburgh's timeline, as their days of success with this core are clearly behind them.
Ultimately, it's in the best interest of both parties to move on after two failed campaigns with Karlsson in Pittsburgh, and if Dubas is looking to retool and take these Penguins into a more successful future, there should be a solid asset to be gained in sending him with money retained to a contending squad.
