Edmonton Oilers head coach Kris Knoblauch provided an update on forward Zach Hyman’s injury on Wednesday. The update comes as the team prepares to face the Philadelphia Flyers, kicking off a seven-game road trip.

Knoblauch confirmed that Hyman, who has been recovering from a wrist injury, will not play against the Flyers but could return later this week.

“Yeah, unfortunately, not ready for tonight,” Knoblauch told reporters. “We’re definitely looking sometime this week, maybe tomorrow if we’re really lucky, but definitely by Saturday.”

Hyman is close to making his 2025–26 season debut after missing the first 17 games. He suffered the wrist injury during Game 4 of last season’s Western Conference Final against the Dallas Stars on May 27. The 33-year-old has been skating with the team and took part in multiple practices leading up to the trip.

Reports suggest Hyman could return as early as Thursday in Columbus or on Saturday against the Carolina Hurricanes. Edmonton will need to make a roster move to activate him from injured reserve.

Hyman’s return would provide a major boost to the Oilers’ offense and top-six forward group. He scored 54 goals in the 2023-24 season and 27 goals last season. He also brings consistent forechecking and net-front presence.

The Oilers currently hold a 7-6-4 record, sitting fifth in the Pacific Division. They’ve shown improvement with recent wins over the Columbus Blue Jackets and Chicago Blackhawks, but continue to seek greater consistency. Their 9-1 loss to the Colorado Avalanche was particularly alarming.

With Hyman nearing full health, the Oilers hope his return can spark a more stable and productive stretch during their longest road trip of the season.
