Oilers’ Connor McDavid becomes fourth-fastest player to score 1,100 NHL points

McDavid trails only Hall of Famers Wayne Gretzky, Mario Lemieux and Mike Bossy as the fastest players to reach 1,100 points. The Richmond Hill, Ont. native came one game shy of tying Bossy for third fastest, as the late New York Islanders legend achieved the mark in his 725th game, while McDavid scored No. 1,100 in Game 726 of his career. McDavid became the youngest active player to reach the plateau as well.

The apple gives McDavid 15 assists on the young season, placing him third in the NHL in helpers, only trailing Montreal Canadiens captain Nick Suzuki and Pittsburgh Penguins forward Evgeni Malkin, who are tied for the league lead with 16 apiece. McDavid has three goals and 18 points in 14 appearances this season, placing him in the top-10 in overall scoring.

The 28-year-old now has four assists in his last two games, as he posted three helpers in an overtime win over the Chicago Blackhawks on Saturday night.

McDavid’s attack on offensive milestones shows no signs of slowing down. The five-time Art Ross Trophy winner is second all-time in franchise scoring, only trailing Gretzky. He’s also second on the Oilers’ assists list, with his 736 apples trailing The Great One’s 1,086.

In the first 10 years of his NHL career, McDavid has won the Hart Trophy three times, the Ted Lindsay Award four times, while also capturing the Maurice “Rocket” Richard Trophy in 2022-23.
